DIMAPUR — Residents of several colonies in Dimapur had to bear the brunt of the summer heat on Saturday night due to a power outage that lasted more than 12 hours.

The power blackout, which started around 6 pm, was attributed to snapping of the high-tension wires of the 11KV feeder supplying power to Nagagaon, Lotha colony, Kyong colony, Rio colony and Oriental colony.

According to a source from the Power department, a minor short circuit caused the high-tension wires to snap, resulting in considerable damage to the feeder. The source also disclosed that the high-tension wires have not been replaced for more than 40 years.

It took hours for the department staff to fix the fault and replace the wires.

The power was finally restored after 9:30 am on Sunday.
