KOHIMA — Advisor for Prison, Printing and Stationary, Kropol Vitsu has stressed on the need to learn Hindi to expand one’s horizon to coexist with other communities.

He was addressing the 30th State-Level Hindi Diwas 2023, organised by the All Nagaland Hindi Teachers Union (ANHTU) and hosted by ANHTU, Kohima unit, here at Ura Academy Hall, on Friday.

Maintaining that India is a diverse country which is united by Hindi language, Vitsu also dwelled on the historical aspects of how Hindi became an official language of India.

While viewing that to impose Hindi as the official language of Nagaland is “impossible,” he however emphasised the need to learn the Hindi language. The advisor also shared his experience of his recent visit to Delhi and added that he is also trying to learn Hindi.

Vitsu said that reciprocity of learning is a vital need as it is essential to communicate with mainland India.

Asking the people to debunk the idea that “Hindi means Hindu” but rather to take Hindi as a language, he also urged the people of the state not to harbour hatred against people of other religions, but to uphold the true spirit of the country – unity in diversity.

Further, the advisor also implored the teachers to give their best while also asking the untrained Hindi teachers to get themselves trained as the learning process of a child solely depends on them.

Meanwhile, ANHTU president Kekhrieneilie Tsikhano, in his speech, highlighted the significance of the day and said that Hindi Diwas is celebrated annually on September 14, to commemorate the day when the Constituent Assembly if India adopted the Hindi language as the official language on September 14, 1949.

He called upon the participants not to make the day a celebration of language alone but also a celebration of India’s rich cultural tapestry, linguistic diversity, and the bridge that Hindi provides between the past and the present.

Tsikhano also said that the day is a celebration of the timeless wisdom contained in ancient texts, the vibrancy of contemporary Hindi literature and the global reach of the Hindi.

Ruchunlo Tep, JEO (Hindi) Directorate of School Education, also addressed the gathering.

Earlier, president of ANHTU, Kohima unit, Vizothal Zhotso, delivered the welcome address, the union’s report was presented by S Vilou Krocha, joint secretary ANHTU.
