KOHIMA — Advocating the adage ‘Cleanliness is next to godliness,’ the advisor of Transport and Technical Education, Temjenmenba, called upon the youth of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) to be at the forefront in propagating cleanliness in the society.
He stated this during a cleanliness drive organised by the NDPP youth organisation in the state capital, Kohima, on Saturday. While commending the efforts undertaken by the NDPP youth, he emphasised on the need to sensitise the people to keep their surroundings clean and neat.
While underlining the necessity of peace for stability and all round development, he stated that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, is leading in the right direction.
Temjenmenba advised the youth to go to the grassroots with the programmes and initiatives initiated by the government.
MLA of Kohima town Assembly Constituency, Dr. Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, has acknowledged NDPP youth organisation for initiating the social work in Kohima ahead of the Hornbill festival. He maintained that it should be the responsibility of everyone to preserve and protect the environment.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]He informed that Kohima, with a population of more than 2 lakh, produce 80 to 90 tons of waste in a day wherein 42% are recycled while the remaining 58% are not recycled. He, therefore, called upon the public to maintain a cleaner city.
Short speeches were delivered by former legislator, Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, president of NDPP youth organisation, Imchatoba Imchen.
Later, the party youth leaders along with the legislators donated waste bins to Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).
