KOHIMA — The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Nagaland has announced its support to Dr. Chumben Murry, the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) consensus candidate, for the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections.

State NCP president, Vanthungo Odyuo, conveyed the party’s decision on Wednesday, stating that the same has been put across to the central leadership in Mumbai and New Delhi.

“Accordingly, NCP central leadership has concurred to extend solidarity to such consensus candidate unanimously chose by the alliance political parties in Nagaland,” he said.

The president also reiterated the party’s letter of support to the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-led PDA government in March 2023.

It may be mentioned that BJP Nagaland, an ally of the PDA, and the Janata Dal United (JD-U) had earlier endorsed Dr. Murry’s candidature, while the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), which has two MLAs — Dr. Sukhato Sema and Naiba Konyak — in the opposition-less PDA government, said that it is yet to decide on whether or not to extend its support.

Meanwhile, former National People’s Party (NPP) Lok Sabha MP candidate (2019), Hayithung Bill Lotha, declared his candidature for the upcoming general elections on Saturday without mentioning the political party he would contest from, while the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee said that it would announce its candidate on Thursday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is yet to announce the schedule for the much-anticipated Lok Sabha election but it is expected to be held in April and May.

According to the electoral roll published on February 10, 2024, there are 13.17 lakh voters in 60 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) of Nagaland, comprising 6, 60, 544 female voters and 6, 56, 489 male voters, as well as more than 7700 service voters who are eligible to vote for the lone parliamentary seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
