Dimapur, Sep. 3 (EMN): The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has questioned the delay in construction of old Dhansiri bridge and demanded the completion of works by December.

Expressing anguish and dismay over the delay in construction of the bridge, the NCD asked the Urban Development department, as to ‘why it is taking long years to construct a few meter bridge’ and warned that failure to complete the bridge would compel the council to take its own course of action.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, NCD stated that it has been 10 years and it is yet to be completed causing immense hardship to commuters.

As per the RTI, NCD stated that all the works of the project are to be completed within 24 months from the date of issue of work order and on failure to complete within the given time, penalty will be charged as per rules of contract agreement.

NCD supports decision of WSH, WCH

The Naga council Dimapur (NCD) has supported the decision taken by the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH) and Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH), Dimapur, to deal with the crimes perpetrated by its members, in accordance to the customary law and its practices.

While lauding the ‘bold and notable’ move of the hohos, the NCD urged other tribal bodies to emulate the same yardstick to reform and rehabilitate the criminals.

“Exploitation by these anti-social elements has adverse consequences on economic and social development especially in Dimapur and these vested groups have also long kept the dreams and aspirations of many Naga people in restraints,” it stated.

‘The seriousness of crime that is taking place today in Naga society and the increasing challenges in the years ahead requires every individual citizen, civic and tribal bodies to take responsibility to reduce and clean the menace by adopting a new criminal justice system,’ it said.

NCD expressed hope that the law enforcing agency and all levels of government organisations plan and implement the changes that must be made to bring about prevention, reduction and elimination of crimes that is truly plaguing the Naga society.
