Nazareth rocks Karbi Youth Fest despite rain dampener
DIPHU — Thousands of rock music enthusiasts and devoted fans of the Scottish rock band Nazareth flocked to Diphu Sports Complex on the evening of January 16 for the live performance of the band. Despite the rain playing a dampening role, the band ultimately performed before the cheering crowds.
The Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) had invited Nazareth to add spirit to the Karbi Youth Festival‘s (KYF) golden jubilee celebrations. The band, which rose to prominence in the 1970s, is known for hit songs like “Dream On,” “Love Hearts,” and “Where R U Now.”
The show had opened with performances by pianist Nise Meruno and singer Venika Yepthomi, who entertained the crowds with Bollywood numbers. They were followed by Mizoram band ‘Sound from the Hills’, who had to cut short their gig due to the sudden downpour.
However, the persistent crowd, including many ardent fans in their 50s and 60s who grew up on the Scottish band’s music, stayed put.
Finally taking the stage, the band opened with “Miss Misery,” followed by “Razamanaz,” “Shanghai’D,” “Madness,” “Holiday,” “Receiver,” “Sunshine,” “Change Time,” and their timeless classics “Dream On,” “Love Hurts,” and “Where R U Now”. For over two hours, Nazareth captivated the crowd.
Meanwhile, on their Facebook page, the band thanked the audience. “Thanks to this wonderful audience at Karbi Youth Festival 2024: Last night’s performance was all about warmth, great music and a beautiful connection. Still feeling the energy and we are not going to be over it anytime soon!” they wrote.
