The Nagaland Assembly Secretariat Staff Association (NASSA) has decided to go for an indefinite agitation against the appointment of Dr. PJ Antony (retired officer) to the post of Principal Secretary in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat.

This was resolved during the Joint Action Committee (JAC) meeting held on Friday after its agitation in the form of ‘pen down strike’ and ‘wearing of black badges’ between June 3 and the 10th.

Secretary JAC, Sezoto Theyo and General Secretary, NASSA Talirenla in a statement stated that ‘an ultimatum had been served to the competent authority to revoke/cancel the appointment order of Dr. P.J Antony (retired officer) by June 13, 2022’.

“In the event of the failure to address this ultimatum within the specified period, the JAC had resolved to prevent Dr. P.J. Antony (retired officer) from entering the premises of the NLA Secretariat Complex and any undesired situation arising out of forceful entry into the Secretariat premises, Dr. P.J Antony shall be doing so, at his own risk,” it stated.

It may be mentioned that the state government had appointed Dr. PJ Antony to the post of Principal Secretary on contract basis with effect from June 1, 2022 till November 30, 2023, triggering protests from NASSA.

Meanwhile, the NASSA on Thursday served an ultimatum to NLA Speaker, seeking the revocation of the appointment order, saying that extending the service/overstay of a retired government officer beyond the date of superannuation had adversely de-motivated the officers and staff of the secretariat.
