KOHIMA — The joint secretary of Ura Academy, Kikruneinuo Liezietsu, on Thursday stated that mother tongue and multilingualism under NEP 2020 would bring in more prospects to the language perpetuation.

She stated this while delivering the keynote address on day-two of the ongoing Ura Academy (UA) 53rd Tenyidie seminar for Tenyidie teachers at Ura Academy Hall, Mission Compound in Kohima. She highlighted a brief history of the Tenyidie language and how it evolved from 1939 when JE Tanquist formed the Angami Literature Board and eventually developed.

She stated that many students and scholars have already received Ph.D in Tenyidie under the Nagaland University. Stating that teachers need to be updated and refreshed, she stated that orientation programmes such as this for the teacher would empower language teachers.

Also speaking on the occasion, the president of Ura Academy, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, has termed the teaching fraternity as language ‘missionary,’ who would be the carriers of the knowledge of Tenyidie to the students and masses in general.

In this regard, he encouraged the teachers to efficiently execute their duties to further promote the language.

In the technical session, Dr. Khotole Khieya, associate professor of Education at Nagaland University, Kohima campus, spoke on NEP 2020, while Dr. Metseilhouthie Mor, assistant professor at Pfütsero Government College, presented a technical paper on grammar and composition, word division and literature, and Vizonyü Liezietsu spoke on language usage.

On Friday, the Tenyidie Kephrünuoko Krotho would organise competitions on debate, story writing, poetry writing, essay writing for the high and higher secondary schools from 10 am. Dr. Hovithal Sothu, project director of TaFMA, would exhort the gatherings in the third session.

Later in the evening, a valedictory session would be held where award would be given to meritorious students in Tenyidie and music in the HSLC, HSSLC and undergraduate students.
