Nagaland taekwondo team to take part in national c’ship
KOHIMA — The Nagaland Taekwondo team consisting of 12 players from the Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA), left for Guwahati on Thursday to represent the state at the 39th Senior National (Kyorugi) and 12th Senior National (Poomsae) Taekwondo Championship, scheduled to take place from September 9 in Assam.
The Nagaland team is led by coaches Visabiu Peseyie and Seyievilie Nakhro while the team managers are Santsuthung Ngullie and Alem Aier. The 12 members include eight males and four females, the NTA informed.
Participating in the men’s Kyorugi division are Keyinchigongbe Hega (54kg), S Bovito Chophy (58kg), Heutingyi (63kg), Vilabizo Nagi (68kg), B Mongkai Phom (74kg), Dikshant (80kg), Sudhir (87kg), and Menuosetuo Yiese (87kg).
In the women’s category, the players participating in the championship are Visazono (46kg), Dziesengunuo Solo (53kg), Dzuvichunuo Rutsa (57kg) and Antimonyu Chang (62kg).
After a month of intensive coaching camp at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, the team left Nagaland for Assam on Thursday, it was informed.
The senior national taekwondo championship will be the qualifying round for National Games 2023 to be held at Goa from October 25 to November 9. The top eight position-winning states in this championship will qualify for the forthcoming National Games.
About a thousand players from across the country are expected to take part in the championship. The All Assam Taekwondo Association is hosting the tournament, which will take place at the Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Indoor Stadium, Sarusajai Sports Complex.
