Kohima, Aug. 25 (EMN):
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Thursday stated that the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) is in the final stage of advertising recruitment of various posts , while adding that it is a fulfillment of his party’s election manifesto committed to the people during the last election for meritocracy.

He further said it was also realisation of the demand of the public led by the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF).

Rio was speaking during the launch of the office of the NSSB and its website at the New Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services building, near NPSC, Speaker Road, Capital Complex in Kohima.

Addressing the gathering, he highlighted the timeline of the NSSB and added that the inauguration of the office and website was a red letter day ‘as it is fully in motion’.

He told the board members and officials that it was the first of its kind and people had lots of expectations, particularly the educated and those seeking long-term employment.

In this regard, he advised them to build trust through transparency, reputation and legacy to set a benchmark and assured them of the government’s support in all possible ways.

He also said the NSSB should provide just and fair opportunities to all the candidates and ensure that all policies laid down by the government are followed.

He asked them to conduct examinations and interviews in the shortest possible time to avoid public criticism and also fulfill the needs of various departments on time.

“While scrutinising the applications of candidates, proper care should be taken to ensure that the conditions mentioned in the advertisement are fully kept and incomplete applications and non-eligible candidates are removed,” he said, adding that the NSSB must strictly follow the relevant service rules and a fair method of the selection process has to be followed in both the written and interview process.

He also asserted that care must be taken to ensure that recommendations are made strictly as per the number of posts and reservation policy of the state, especially for the tribes in eastern Nagaland.

Rio urged the board to make use of modern scientific methods of checking applications, and utilise the latest state-of-the-art electronic technology to avoid mistakes.

Meanwhile, he told the board members to ensure that all the examination fees are collected through online process as other modes of fee collection such as bank draft, postal orders, treasury challans etc. were slowly getting outdated.

The chief minister also said that the NSSB should keep itself fully informed of the government policies and instructions to avoid legal litigation.

‘NSSB has to ascertain well in advance the number of posts for which recruitment is to be made from various departments’, stated Rio, adding that maintaining the safe custody of examination materials, both before and after the examination and maintaining confidentiality will be important. He also stressed on the need for proper record keeping.

Further, he stated that NSSB is an autonomous body of the government and it should make every effort to ensure that the normal examination process which includes inviting applications by means of advertisements, scrutinising applications received in response to advertisements, getting question papers ready, conducting competitive examination for the candidates, selection and preparation of merit list of the successful candidates, recommending to the departments’ concerned names of the selected, are followed properly for fairness and transparency.

On the occasion, a speech was delivered by Sedevikho Khro, Chairman of NSSB and J Alam, Chief Secretary, Nagaland while the programme was chaired by B Henok Buchem, Secretary cum Controller, NSSB.
