Nagaland recorded 710 road accidents, 80 fatalities in 2022
Kohima: As many as 710 road accidents were recorded in Nagaland in 2022 (from January to December), resulting in 80 fatalities and 344 injuries, reported the Transport department in its annual administrative report 2022-23, attributing the Police department for the information.
The number of road accidents in 2022 witnessed a decline over 2021, which saw 923 road mishaps with 56 fatalities and 430 injuries.
Meanwhile, the Transport department’s annual report for the year 2022-23, which was tabled during the just concluded first session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), mentioned that as many as 23,316 vehicles were registered in the state from April 1, 2022 to February 2023.
A total of 20,190 driving licenses were also issued during the same period.
The report went on to state that the enforcement wing of the department detected 2,224 defaulters from February, 2022 to February 2023, from which a total amount of INR 29, 76, 800 (aprox. INR 29.76 lakh) was realised as compounding fees.
