PPC affirms to abstain from elections

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): While upholding the ENPO’s August 26 resolution for a separate statehood ‘Frontier Nagaland,’ the Phom Peoples’ Council (PPC) has affirmed to abstain from the upcoming 2023 Nagaland state general elections and any election process of the state and central governments. The decision to this effect was taken during a joint meeting with all the chairmen and members of the village councils, head GBs and presidents of all the civil society organisations of Longleng district held on September 21 in Longleng town. The members resolved to abstain from any election process of the state or central government until its demand for a separate statehood “Frontier Nagaland” is fulfilled. The house has further banned any election related campaigns by any political parties, candidate declaration programme by any individuals, groups or party within its jurisdiction.

Engineer abducted in Changtonya

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Langpangkong Tzükong Mungdang, All Ward Union Changtongya Town, Akhoya Putu Tatar Menden and Changtongya Putu Tatar Menden have vehemently condemned the nefarious act of abduction of one Ramakhant Kiri, a civil engineer in Nitin Sai Company, by some unknown persons on September 21 in Changtongya town. The Nitin Sai Company is engaged in Changtongya-Longleng road construction works. The respective range, wards and village authorities have jointly demanded the abductors to release the person by September 22 unharmed. They also warned to pursue the matter till the end if the abductors fail to release the person accordingly.

DTCC undertake enforcement drive

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): The enforcement squad of the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC), Dimapur, conducted checking against the violators of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA), which prohibits sale of tobacco products within a radius of one hundred yards of any educational institution, on September 21. The drive was conducted in areas where shops are located within 100 yards of schools in Diphupar village and CIHSR. The joint team comprised of enforcement squad from Diphupar police station, Diphupar youth organisation, CIHSR security personnel and DTCC staff.  Tobacco products were seized and destroyed, and violators were also challaned on the spot.

LFI College organises debate competition

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Political Science department of Livingstone Foundation International College, Dimapur, organised a debate competition on September 21 on the topic “Should Nagaland liquor total prohibition act 1989 be revoked?” An update from the college stated that the debate was organised to enhance the power of eloquence to enable the students improve their cognitive and presentation skills and to instill in them political consciousness. In the competition, Kevin secured the first position, while Tughunaka K Zhimo and Akumse A Sangtam secured the second and third positions respectively.

Eye camp conducted in Dimapur

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Leo Club of Dimapur along with Lions Club of Dimapur conducted a two-day free eye screening camp on September 17 and 18. An update from Leo Club stated that a total of 1000 patients have availed the free service and medical aids. The eye camp was organized with an objective to spread awareness on eye disorders, early detection of ailments, and to detect refractive errors and provide corrective glasses free of cost.

TUD convenes joint meeting

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Tenyimi Union Dimapur (TUD) has convened a joint meeting on September 23 at Hotel Saramti, Dimapur, at 4 pm. The union has requested all its office bearers, advisors, tribal unit presidents, senior leaders, presidents and secretaries of Tenyimi Women Union Dimapur (TWUD), Tenyimi Youth Organisation Dimapur (TYOD) and Tenyimi Students’ Union Dimapur (TSUD) to attend the meeting.

DC-level border meeting held

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): A deputy commissioner-level border meeting between DC of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, and DC Golaghat, Dr. P Uday Praveen, was held at 142 Bn CRPF Camp, Merapani, on Wednesday. A DIPR report stated that the CRPF has highlighted the role of the neutral force in the Disputed Area Belt (DAB) as per the existing agreement signed by the governments of Nagaland and Assam in 1979. The force also outlined the various pending issues in the DAB pertaining to sector B, C and D. The meeting deliberated upon all the issues and necessary instructions were conveyed to the departments concerned for resolution. “It was resolved that all the departments and border magistrates should remain in constant touch and share relevant information in order to ensure smooth functioning in the DAB,” it stated.

Finance dept. informs on crop loan mortgage

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): The state Finance department, in a notification dated September 9, informed that the government of Nagaland has remitted the whole amount of stamp duty chargeable on all instruments of mortgage relating to crop loans.

GPRN/NSCN fasting and prayer programme

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): The Council Headquarters Church, in collaboration with the General Headquarters Church, Naga Unification Camp, Khehoyi, has convened a one-day special ‘Fasting and prayer programme’ for early Naga political solution on September 24 from 7 am to 12 noon at Council Headquarters Church, Khehoyi. The GPRN/NSCN, in a notification, informed all its members both from the civil set up and Naga Army along with their spouses to attend the special service to seek blessing from the Almighty God.

Life Concern Ministries to hold event

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): Life Concern Ministries, a faith venture ministry having sincere concerns over the situation in Nagaland and to create awareness against anti-corruption, has announced to organise an event on September 23 at Urban Haat in Dimapur from 4 pm on the theme “Re-building Nagaland is in everyone hand.” The event would feature INCIPIT band. Other highlights of the event would include blowing of trumpet invoking God’s presence, poem of cries, message from God messengers, messages of rebuilding, special presentation from Nagaland popular singers, and some guides for drivers and traffic rules.
