Nagaland DGP confers medals to 10th NAP (IR) battalion

Zhadima, May 12 (EMN): Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP), T John Longkumer, gave away Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak (medal) to the officers and personnel of 10th Nagaland Armed Police (Indian Reserve) Battalion in Zhadima under Kohima district during a programme on Thursday.

Addressing the programme, Longkumer told the jawans to value the medals which were approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), government of India (GoI). Stating that the medals are priceless reflection of their hard work, he told them to wear it with pride.

The DGP also maintained that 10 NAP IR Bn Zhadima was the second from the state after the 9th NAP IR Bn to receive the medals and congratulated the officers and personnel.

Meanwhile, the commandant of 10th NAP (Indian Reserve) Bn Zhadima, Vekhosa Chakhesang, thanked the DGP for his overwhelming support and effort in pursuing the matter with the Ministry for timely action. He also congratulated the officers and men, who have rendered dedicated service by upholding the corporate principles and demonstrating the Nagaland Police motto “Service, Security and Sacrifice” for a better future of mankind.

“The medal reflects your personal and professional achievements and I hope you will wear, display it with pride,” said the commandant.

While highlighting a brief history of the 10th NAP Bn (IR), he stated that it was approved by the government of Nagaland in the year 2001 and the unit was subsequently raised on January 28, 2002, with the motto “Striking Tenth” and Purple and White as unit colour. He added that the battalion logo was adopted and approved by PHQ in 2021 with the Roman numeral “X” and the crosshair represents the unit’s ability to strike anywhere with deadly precision depicting its operational nature of duty as a strike force.

It may be mentioned that since its inception, the unit has been deployed and performed various duties both within and outside the state. One notable achievement of the unit was deployment in Purulia, West Bengal, for anti-naxalite operation duty from August 27, 2010 to August 28, 2012. During the two years deployment, so many Maoist activists were eliminated and arrested. The troops had also busted naxalite camps/ hideouts of Left Wing extremists and seized a good number of arms and ammunitions, locally made weapons and incriminating documents, informed Vekhosa Chakhesang.

He asserted that besides operational duties, the unit also initiated many community action programmes which were genuinely appreciated by the local residents. He said, “The mission was very successful and a sense of security was established in the mind of the public of Purulia district. The commitment and bravery of the force was fully acknowledged and appreciated by the general public as well as the state government.”

On the occasion 920 medals were presented to the officers and personnel by the DGP in the presence of Renchamo Kikon, ADGP (Adm), Sonia Singh, IGP (IR), senior officers, and others.

Earlier the DGP inaugurated the Purple Hall, which was dedicated by the unit pastor, Rev. Toshi.
