‘Nagaland committed to protection of child rights’

KOHIMA — Chairman of Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR), Alun Hangsing on Monday said that the state government under the able leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio is fully committed to protection of child rights and strengthening child rights institution.
Addressing the inaugural session of the seven-day residential training of Child Welfare Committees (CWC) in Nagaland, which got under way at Hotel 2K in Kohima, the state commission chairman also stressed on the need to create a vibrant generation and to build a conducive environment for children.
The residential training is being organised by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in collaboration with Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and (NSCPCR) facilitated by Seva Bharati Purbanchal (SBP).
Highlighting the history of child rights which is almost a century, Hangsing said the Government of India in the year 1992 adopted the Child Rights and passed an act in the Parliament. Government of Nagaland also passed a legislation in year 2013 on the protection of child rights.
He pointed out that the Western world has advanced in regard to child rights as they have accorded much importance to child rights.
Acknowledging the NCPCR for the concern shown for the rights of children and coming to Nagaland to organise the programme, Hangsing encouraged the participants to work for the future and right s of the children and to mould a vibrant Naga generation.
Additional Secretary, Social Welfare department, Yongchingkumla, in her speech said that protection of children is not only an issue of right but also vital for the development processes of a child.
Informing that the Child Welfare Committee Nagaland is spread in all the districts, she urged the participants to take the opportunity to enhance their skills for the welfare of children.
Meanwhile, Payal Sharma, Division Head, Child Labour and Children in Distress, NCPCR, informed that the commission has launched the module of training to put an effort to the child rights protection.
She exuded confidence that the seven-day training will enhance the skills for the betterment of the children.
