Nagaland Chief Minister oversees progress of Kohima Smart City projects
KOHIMA — Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday inspected the ongoing City Centre project and the Khouchiezie, Kohima local ground, which is being remodelled under the Smart City Mission by the Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL).
Rio said that the projects were behind schedule and the KSCDL has extension the completion time to March 2024.
Hopefully they (KSCDL) have a commitment to complete it on time, so let us hope for the best, he told Eastern Mirror, adding that the pace of ‘construction will be much faster as it is a prefab’.
When asked about the much-anticipated multi-level parking at Old Medical Directorate, PR Hill, and NST Station Kohima, he said the projects are completed and will be inaugurated soon to enable the public utilise it.
The chief minister also took to X (formerly Twitter) to update about the inspection of the City Centre at Old MLA Hostel site and Khouchiezhie. “The new facilities will have modern amenities, multi-level parking, driveways etc. and provide the much-needed urban facilities in the capital city,” he wrote.
“Instructed the officials to ensure that all Smart City projects are completed within the Ministry’s given timeline. Also, I congratulate Smart City Kohima on winning the Zonal Smart City Award for Northeast Zone under India Smart Cities Awards Contest (ISAC) for the year 2022,” he added.
The trophies won by the KSCDL were also put on display during the inspection. The CM accompanied by his advisor and Chairman of IDAN, Abu Metha, and other officials.
Meanwhile, CEO of KSCDL, Kezha Theünuo, brief the chief minister about the progress of the projects, informing that the Khouchiezie Kohima local ground will be completed by January and the City Centre by March 31 next year.
The officials also told him that the construction works at the project sites are being done round the clock on shift basis.
It may be mentioned that the City Centre will house facilities such as a hotel, commercial and sports complex and multi-level car parking (MLCP) spread across an area of 21,408.69 sq.m (approx.5.29 acres).
The Khouchiezie Kohima local ground measures 17,493 sq.m (approx. 5.29 acres) and it will be a multi-purpose ground with gallery, commercial space and parking lot.
The CEO of KSCDL had earlier informed that the multi-level parking at old NST would have capacity of accommodating 105 (approx.) cars and 151 (approx.) cars at Old Medical directorate.
