Nagaland bye-election: Congress confers party ticket to Wanglem Konyak
KOHIMA — The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Wednesday officially issued the party ticket to Wanglem Konyak, for the upcoming bye-election to the 43-Tapi Assembly Constituency.
Addressing the gathering at the Congress Bhavan in Kohima, NPCC President S Supongmeren Jamir said the Congress workers have resolved to fight for the cause of the Nagas and that the party has deep grassroots connections despite being a national party.
He expressed confidence that the voters will cast their ballots in favour of the Congress and ensure a win.
While maintaining that the Congress is fully dedicated to the welfare of the common people and pledged full support to its candidate, Jamir also appealed to the electorates of 43-Tapi constituency to vote for Wanglem Konyak.
Speaking on the occasion, Konyak thanked the party for reposing trust in him to contest the upcoming bye-election and appealed to the people to support him so that he can bring development to the constituency and the state.
Noting that he had lost the previous general election by 82 votes, he requested the people to give him a chance to be their voice. He also said that he would file the nomination papers on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party had issued its ticket to Wangpang Konyak for the Tapi bye-election which is scheduled to be held on November 7.
The deadline for submitting nominations is October 20, with the scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for October 21. Withdrawal of candidatures will be allowed until October 23, and the votes will be counted on December 3.
