Nagaland Bar Association condoles the demise of Justice Shishak
NBA has condoled the demise of Justice (retired) WA Shishak.
DIMAPUR — Nagaland Bar Association (NBA) has condoled the demise of Justice (retired) WA Shishak, one of its founding members, who passed away on August 3.
NBA has described Justice WA Shishak as a mentor, a friend, philosopher and guide, who had served in varied fields of law including as a senior government advocate for the government of Nagaland for about seven years. He was the NBA president for three terms from 1981 to 1988.
He had also served as judge of the Gauhati High Court from January 2, 1989, and went on to serve as the first Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court on December 4, 2000, and as Chief Justice of the Himachal Pradesh High Court on January 24, 2002, till his retirement on January 1, 2003.
NBA stated that his demeanour in court was warm and friendly especially encouraging towards fresh entrants in the legal profession, while at the same time, he was very strict in relation to courtroom etiquette and decorum.
It stated that proceedings in his court would sometimes result in personal anecdotes concerning the dispensation of justice. It added that the judgements he delivered were not purely legalistic but tinged with his deep-rooted sense of right and wrong.
NBA recalled its last interaction with Justice WA Shishak during its golden jubilee celebration on September 27, 2019, where he was one of the speakers.
NBA lamented that in his passing away, the legal fraternity of the state has lost a giant. It has further conveyed condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for peace of the departed soul.
