KOHIMA — A new panchayat hall-cum-parking at Nagabazaar in Kohima was inaugurated by Kezhazelhou Theünuo, chief executive officer (CEO) of Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL), on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Theünuo said that the construction of Nagabazaar panchayat hall-cum-parking was sanctioned on March 31, 2022, with an amount of INR 2.30 crore which included electrification, water supply, sanitary fittings and rainwater harvesting reservoir.

He appreciated the panchayat for completing the work within the timeframe.

Theünuo informed that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for operational and management would be signed between Naga Bazaar panchayat, Kohima Smart City Development Limited and Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) for revenue sharing as per smart city mission guidelines.

He informed that KSCDL has taken up similar community buildings in other six municipal wards namely at New Market, Daklane, Midland, D Block, Chotobosti and North Block under slum area re-development.

Theünuo expressed hope that the panchayat hall would not only benefit the residents financially but also usher in unity, understanding and cooperation among the members.

He appealed to the community leaders for timely maintenance and proper usage of the community building. He pointed out that most of the buildings, roads and bridges get damaged before reaching their full life span due to non-maintenance.

Meanwhile, Theünuo informed that the Smart City mission period was supposed to be completed by June 2023 but the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has extended for another year for completion of ongoing projects.

He stated that 74% of 100 smart city projects were estimated to get completed by June 2023. He added that an extension was granted to complete the remaining 26% of the projects.

He further informed that Kohima smart city assets/ properties would be handed over to KMC for management and maintenance after the completion of the Smart City mission period.

The welcome address was delivered by Vilasielie Solo, chairman of Nagabazaar panchayat, while a song was presented by Theja Sekhose and an invocation prayer was said by Rev. Kevimese Suohu, pastor of NBCC.
