Ungma (Mkg.), July 1 (EMN): Minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, on Monday asserted that exclusive mindset has fragmented Naga society into pieces and told the Ao community that as pioneers, they should think differently for an inclusive Nagaland.
The minister was addressing the Tsungremmong celebration programme organised by the Soyim Shisaluyimer Telongjem at Babu Tzubo Amphitheatre, Ungma village in Mokokchung district.
“We need an inclusive society not an exclusive society, where all tribes live in unity with a prospect for development, employment, economic viability and socio cultural identity is inclusive,” he said.
He also observed that in Nagaland there is no peace of mind among the people and cannot ‘ascertain ourselves socio-economically, politically, traditionally and culturally’.
In this regard, he said that Nagas can achieve unity with ‘our uniqueness, which is our diverse culture and tradition’.
He, however, cautioned that ‘we should not mix our tradition and culture with faith and should preserve and teach what is important to our generation’. He also urged Ungma villagers be the patrons of the Ao tradition and culture.
He further lamented that Nagaland has high literacy but lack educated people.
In this connection, he called upon the students to pursue their education for inclusive Nagaland and it should be their way of life.
The event also witnessed colourful cultural presentations from the apex students’ bodies of the six ranges.
