Naga political issue: Nagaland Legislative Assembly passes resolution for ‘one honourable, inclusive and acceptable Solution’

Kohima, Feb. 18 (EMN): The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on Thursday passed a resolution on the Indo-Naga political issue for “One Solution” that is honourable, inclusive and acceptable to the people without ‘any further delay’.
It was passed through a four-point resolution introduced by the leader of the House and chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, and seconded by the leader of opposition, TR Zeliang, on the fourth day of the ongoing 7th session of the 13th NLA. The House later adopted and passed it.
The House, while endorsing and reiterating all the past resolutions of the NLA on Indo-Naga political issue, resolved to work unitedly in facilitating the negotiations.
It appreciated the continued efforts made by the Government of India to resolve the protracted issue through peaceful means and for acknowledging the unique history and identity of the Nagas by upholding the Naga political talks.
The House also acknowledged and lauded the efforts made by all Naga political groups, political parties, civil society organisations, churches and NGOs towards finding a peaceful resolution to the Naga political issue and ‘appealed to continue working towards strengthening Naga unity, and come together in the spirit of oneness for larger interest of the Naga people’.
Further, the House urged the Government of India and the Naga political groups to sit across the table for “One Solution” that is honourable, inclusive and acceptable to the people.
It may be mentioned that the legislators actively participated in the discussion on the Indo-Naga political issue on February 16 and constituted a drafting committee comprising two members from each political parties: NDPP – Neiba Kronu and Toshi Wuntung; BJP – S Pangnyu Phom and Jacob Zhimomi; NPF – Dr. Chotisuh Sazo and Imkong L Imchem; and Independent – Tongpang Ozukum, to draft a resolution on the decades-old Naga issue. The committee had a sitting on February 17.
