Kohima, Aug. 28 (EMN):
The Naga People’s Front (NPF) endorsed the resolution for formation of an opposition-less government under the new nomenclature “Nagaland United Government (NUG)” and reiterated its stand for an acceptable, inclusive and honourable solution to the protracted Naga political at its consultative meeting held on Saturday.

NPF President, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu said after the meeting that the house discussed about the coming together of the MLAs under NUG.

‘Our (NPF) MLAs, when they go there for political reasons, the party does not stand in their way; rather we endorse the decision if it is for political reasons,’ said Liezietsu, adding that the party had told its members not to ask for any office, and not to accept anything even if offered.

‘Later on, if they work together, we do not know, but as of now our position is very clear- they will be there (in the government) for political reasons,’ he reiterated.

“If all our 60 members (NLA legislators) feel that by coming together, they can become a pressure group to talk to the Government of India and the national workers, we have to encourage them,” said the NPF president.

“We cannot assure that they’re coming together to solve the political issue because they are not the main players and we are not the main players. The political parties are only facilitators, and therefore the positions of the political parties have to be understood by the people. They (Political parties) are only acting as facilitators. When all 60 members come together, we hope they can be a strong pressure group,” he added.

When asked about the MLAs not holding any office, Liezietsu reiterated the stand of the party that the move was for political reasons.

On the recently statement allegedly made by some senior BJP workers, questioning the intention of the NPF, he said: “That BJP statement, as for me, I found many false allegations; they talk about their imaginations. I do not know whether any of them, the signatories, hold any important portfolios in the party; that I do not know.”

When asked if the BJP had backed off from the resolution on NUG, Liezietsu said that MLAs from all the parties had signed the agreement. “It is for them to decide now,” he added.

No pre-conditions — Zeliang

Meanwhile, the leader of NPF Legislature wing, TR Zeliang, said all the three parties (NDPP, BJP and NPF) were together to form the opposition-less government under the banner of NUG.

“We have signed and our job is over. If there are controversies with the BJP, it is up to them. The ball is in their court,” he said.

Zeliang also reiterated the stand of his party that the party MLAs won’t back-off from its commitment.

“We are for solution and we have come together for solution, so we will not back-off from what we have committed,” he said.

When asked if there was any communication made by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio regarding his meeting on political issues with his Assamese counterpart, Zeliang said he didn’t receive any communication.

“The problem is with the BJP and the NDPP; for us, we have no problem with anybody. So all the 60 members to come together is our concept and we have agreed to the concept and we stand by that and will go ahead with that,” he said.

Speaking about the meeting held on Saturday, he said that the party and its legislators had ‘no demand whatsoever and we stand by that and there is no pre-condition from our side’.
