Dimapur, March 27 (EMN): Naga Hoho has condemned the statement made by Nagaland BJP president Temjen Imna Along that the “Naga flag and constitution are not achievable” in the proposed solution to the protracted Naga political issue.

Temjen Imna Along, who is also the Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, said during the Nagaland Legislative Assembly session, that the government of India won’t give a separate constitution and flag to the Nagas and the people should come to an understanding to live in peace and prosperity.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Naga Hoho said the statement was ‘ludicrous and exhibits his deliberate outrageous attitude towards the Naga people’s rights to live freely as distinct people and the

uniqueness of the Naga political history as recognised by the Government of India’.

Naga Hoho stated that it was well aware of Imna Along as an ‘agent of the GoI as it not the first time has spoken on behalf of India’.

“Every sensible Naga must condemn such a person who is acting as an enemy to his own nation. One may keep on receiving awards and privileges beyond the advantages of most by siding with the Government of India. However, it is to be noted that this ambitious rise to high status comes at the cost of betrayal to one’s own people,” read the statement.

The statement further said that the Naga political movement exists not for ‘gaining opportunities of employment or economic packages for the present generation but for the struggles for a free nation’. “The Government of India and the negotiating parties have signed the agreements and talks for a logical conclusion are at a crucial stage in which every stakeholder must extend their fullest support rather than talking about one’s own suppositions.

“It is the desire of Nagas to witness the Naga political solution becoming a reality. While anxiously waiting for a logical conclusion, however the history and rights of the Nagas cannot be surrendered for want of an early solution.

“We appeal to all fellow Nagas to be a positive contributing factor towards reaching our destiny instead of remaining a destructive force when the negotiating parties are all seriously striving to find an amicable political settlement,” it added.
