DIMAPUR — The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has expressed concern over the slow progress of renovations on a new road over-bridge connecting Golaghat Road junction and Burma Camp. The existing bridge was recently dismantled due to age and safety concerns, causing significant disruption to commuters.
While appreciating the government’s initiative to replace the bridge, the NCD noted the project’s slow pace. “The public has also given a negative remark that the numbers of workers are just a handful for the completion of urgent work”, it said in a press release on Wednesday.
With the festive season approaching, the NCD emphasised the need to expedite the construction of the bridge. Dimapur, as the state’s commercial hub, anticipates a large influx of people from surrounding hill districts for Christmas and New Year shopping, it said. Furthermore, the ongoing Hornbill Festival is expected to draw numerous domestic and international visitors, adding to the traffic congestion.
It appealed to the contractor to employ more workers and labourers to expedite construction and alleviate the current traffic problems, stating that the issue has led to public frustration, particularly among students and daily commuters. It also urged the relevant authorities to intervene and ensure the project’s timely completion.
