Naga Council calls for rationalisation of employees within DMC
DIMAPUR — The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has underscored the urgent need for rationalisation of employees within the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), especially in the sanitation department.
In a press release, the NCD impressed upon the municipal council to put a “complete ban on employment,” unlike the previous DMC tenures and successive administrators which had made excessive appointments.
It pointed out that when DMC spends more than INR 1 crore every month just for its staff salary, it puts a heavy dent to the municipal council’s exchequer.
These excessive employees will also swallow the funds meant for basic developmental works and other civic amenities, the NCD said.
“Naga Council Dimapur has always been advocating and pursuing the betterment of Dimapur and would like to highlight the management of drainage and garbage management which are the pressing need of the city.
“This important responsibility of DMC requires efficient and adequate manpower management. Out of the 400 employees under the payroll of the DMC, hardly 100 employees are tasked for sanitation work as most of the staffs are assigned for clerical work,” the NCD added.
It reminded that with the successful installation of the new DMC councillors after two decades, the citizens are eagerly hoping that the council would bring immediate change to Dimapur, as promised by the councilors.
Another point of concern, the NCD noted, is the high rate of essential commodities. It called upon the present team of DMC to ensure that price regulations and rate control are maintained at par with the neighbouring state of Assam.
Additionally, NCD said it has always advocated for proper street lights and installation of CCTVs at strategic locations in Dimapur, for the safety of the people from all walks against anti-social elements.
It asserted that the growth of Dimapur as the business hub of Nagaland can only be gauged by the security and peaceful atmosphere provided to the citizens.
Further, with the proposed project to upgrade Dimapur Railway Station into a modern transportation hub, the NCD appealed to each and every individual and community to cooperate with the railway authorities.
“This year, 2024, commemorates 75 years of Naga Council Dimapur and it is our hope that post-celebration would see clean, better and peaceful Dimapur,” it added.
