Mon, Tseminyu dominate day 2 of inter-district cricket tournament

DIMAPUR — On day 2 of the ongoing Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2024, organised by the Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), thrilling encounters were witnessed at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground.

In the tournament’s third match, played at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Mon registered a comfortable 9-wicket victory over Zunheboto.

Batting first, Zunheboto’s line-up struggled against the lethal bowling attack of Mon, managing a paltry total of 58 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in 17 overs.

Atoka H Sumi’s 27 runs was the top score for Zunheboto, while Bekuto contributed 6 runs. Santosh Kumar and Mughavi Wotsa were the pick of the bowlers for Mon, claiming 3 wickets each while conceding seven and eight runs, respectively.

Chasing the modest target, Mon cruised to victory, reaching 62 for the loss of one wicket in just 7.1 overs. Santosh Kumar remained unbeaten on 26 runs, while Renthungo Lotha scored 20 not out. Atoka H Sumi was the only wicket-taker for Zunheboto, claiming one wicket for 19 runs.

Santosh Kumar was named Player of the Match for his 26-run knock and picking up three wickets.

In another match played at Sovima Cricket Ground, Tseminyu delivered a commanding 71-run victory over Peren.

Tseminyu posted a total of 152 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in 29.5 overs while batting first. Nyuyhenlo Kemp top-scored with 25 runs, while Shyerinlo contributed 24 runs. Zai Zai and Rokovoto were the standout bowlers for Peren, claiming three wickets each while conceding 20 and 36 runs, respectively.

In reply, Peren’s batting line-up faltered against the disciplined bowling attack of Tseminyu, managing only 81 runs for the loss of all 10 wickets in 23 overs.

Bamyibe Npanme scored 29 runs, while Parbez chipped in with 16 runs. Nuntilo Magh was the star performer with the ball for Tseminyu, claiming an impressive six wickets for 33 runs. Shyerinlo also contributed with two wickets for 24 runs.

Magh’s exceptional bowling earned him the Player of the Match award.
