Minister Imna Along urges MITE graduates to foster unity
KOHIMA — The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, celebrated its graduation ceremony on Tuesday, with Temjen Imna Along, Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, in attendance.
Speaking on the occasion, Along urged the graduates to foster unity rather than division, reminding them that, as teachers, they have the potential to influence future generations.
He emphasised that teachers are among the most influential people in the world and encouraged them to recognise the long-lasting impact they can have on their students.
Addressing the challenges facing the state, the minister urged the graduates to take responsibility for their roles as educators, asserting that the path to a strong and prosperous society lies in the quality of its people.
Prosperity, he noted, is not solely about material wealth but also about the knowledge, empathy, and unity that graduates bring to their communities.
Dr. Kate Dandesh Kumar, principal of the institute, expressed pride in the students’ accomplishments, noting that this year’s class produced 19 meritorious students. He apprised that MITE has trained over 1,100 qualified teachers in the past five years.
Kumar highlighted the institute’s recent “Triple-A” accreditation while announcing plans to give cash prizes to outstanding teachers on Teachers’ Day in order to encourage further achievement.
He urged graduates to seize future opportunities and called on the government to support the enhancement of educational resources at MITE, including interactive smart classrooms and improved library facilities.
Lency Kent, Nagaland University topper, highlighted the supportive environment among her peers and reminded her fellow graduates that this milestone marks a new beginning. She encouraged them to embrace challenges and value the friendships formed during their time at the institution.
