Merama Khel, Makhuma Khel triumph at 62nd Phesama Youth Organisation Sports Meet
PHESAMA — Merama Khel defeated Makhuma Khel in a 3-2 set triumph in the final to win the men’s volleyball title at the 62nd Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO) Sports Meet held at Phesama local ground on Saturday.
In women’s volleyball, Makhuma Khel won the championship title by defeating Seikhama Khel in a straight set (2-0).
The two-day sports meet featuring Merama, Seikhama, Makhuma and Viyiema khels kicked off on Friday with Naga-style wrestling and tug of war.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Kevizayie Peter, Account Officer of Development Authority of Nagaland, stressed the importance of self-awareness about one’s age and goals in the sporting journey, and cautioned against underestimating opponents or succumbing to fear.
He encouraged participants to focus on preparation, continuous practice, skill development, strategic planning and confidence building, as well as not to allow their humble backgrounds become excuses.
He also urged the youth to actively engage in community service daily; assist the elderly and those in need, as well as participate in initiatives like cleanliness drive.
Highlighting the concept of shared happiness, he said that individuals create a positive cycle by giving back to the community. Engaging in good deeds is a rewarding investment; positive impact will not go unnoticed and will, in turn, bring forth meaningful rewards, he added
Peter also gave away the prizes to the winners across various events during the closing ceremony.
