Manipur Governor lauds Assam Rifles at investiture ceremony

IMPHAL — The Assam Rifles (AR) Investiture Ceremony was held at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Monday, wherein Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey handed over Governor’s gold and silver medals to AR personnel and Governor’s Unit Citations to the Army and AR units.

Inspector General (Assam Rifles-South) Major General Rajan Sharawat-led Assam Rifles officials, Security Advisor to Manipur Kuldiep Singh, Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi, Manipur State Chief Information Commissioner K Radhashyam Singh, Additional Chief Secretary MH Khan, and Commissioner (Home) T Ranjit were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the ceremony, the governor acknowledged the AR’s glorious history of 187 years, lauding the achievements, integrity and sacrifices made by its soldiers.

She said the Assam Rifles has always being at the forefront, be it the two world wars, counter insurgency operations, maintaining law and order, providing assistance in local administrative work, disaster management or socio-economic development of remote areas.

They are continuously active in the difficult terrain of the Northeast and in counter insurgency operations, she said, adding that they had won the trust and confidence of the region through its public welfare work.

In regard to the current situation in Manipur, the governor acknowledged and appreciated the important role played by the AR in establishing peace and harmony through its dedication, saying that they were vital in reducing the tensions engulfed between communities.

She further mentioned that through its strategic insertions, the Assam Rifles has not only ensured the security of the citizens but also positively encouraged an environment conducive to dialogue and reconciliation. The dedication and hard work of the AR in these difficult times epitomizes the spirit of service and unity essential for the well-being of our state, she added.

The governor also congratulated all the medal winners and Governor’s Citation winners for their excellent work in their respective fields and wished them a glorious future.
