Lt. Gen. RP Kalita flags off K2K motorcycle expedition
To commemorate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lt. Gen. RP Kalita, GOC-in-C of Eastern Command and Colonel of the Kumaon Naga Regiments and Kumaon Scouts, on Sunday flagged off the first of its kind motorcycle expedition undertaken by the Indian army from Kohima to Kargil (K2K)
KOHIMA — To commemorate 24th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lt. Gen. RP Kalita, GOC-in-C of Eastern Command and Colonel of the Kumaon Naga Regiments and Kumaon Scouts, on Sunday flagged off the first of its kind motorcycle expedition undertaken by the Indian army from Kohima to Kargil (K2K).
The flag off ceremony was held at helipad of IGAR (North) headquarters in Kohima, which would be flagged-in at Kargil War Memorial on July 26 coinciding with the Kargil Vijay Diwas.
In his address, Kalita express delight to be a part of the event and added that it is a matter of great pride and privilege for entire Kumaon regiment in celebrating the bravery and valiant and the supreme sacrifice made by the valiant martyrs of the 2 Naga Regiment. He highlighted that the expedition is being conducted to commemorate the 25th years of ‘Operation Vijay,’ wherein the brave Naga warriors enriched the soil of the northern borders by their blood towards safeguarding the territorial integrity of the motherland.
As the expedition is led by the valiant Mashkoh Warriors and would traverse across over 3700 km from Kohima to Kargil, the GOC-in-C pointed out that the expedition would connect the Northeast with the rest of the country and also spread awareness of the brave soldiers who participated in the Kargil war.
On the occasion, he also paid homage to all the brave martyrs in the presence of family members for the supreme sacrifice they have made to protect the nation.
Lt. Gen. RP Kalita also interacted with the widows and family members of the martyrs and handed over the soil of Kargil to them.
It may be mentioned here that the expedition would pass through eight states and two union territories. Along the route, the team would also interact with all sections of society by highlighting the role of Indian army in nation building, motivating youth and addressing to the grievances of Ex-servicemen and Veer Naris.
The main aim of the K2K expedition was to pay homage to the fallen heroes of the Naga Regiment and other brave hearts who made supreme sacrifice to safeguard the integrity of the nation in the Kargil war of 1999
Sainik School hosts K2K team
Sainik School Punglwa (SSP) hosted the Kargil victory bike rally team on July 2. The team was received by the school principal, Group Captain RK Yadav, at the school premises.
The officers along with the team interacted with the staff and cadets of the school. An update from the school stated that its principal has presented the school’s memento as a token of remembrance.
It added that the visit of the team would go a long way in motivating the cadets to join the armed forces.
