DIMAPUR — Deputy Commissioner, Peren, Vineet Kumar, said the youth today faces several challenges and the most critical being the lack of job opportunities and unemployment.

While jobs in the government sector are saturated, jobs in the private sector are limited and require specific skill sets, the DC said, a DIPR report stated.

Kumar was speaking during the launching programme of the Entrepreneur’s Club, organised by Peren district administration, at DC’s conference hall on May 1.

The DC, who shared the concept note of the Entrepreneur’s Club, said there seems to be a low desire to take up entrepreneurship among the youth and that this may be due to several factors such as low risk-taking traits and a lack of right mindset for running an enterprise.

This may be attributed to a lack of exposure during formative years, a lack of practical experience, and the absence of a culture of entrepreneurship. Entrepreneur’s Club is therefore envisaged to overcome some of the challenges being faced by the entrepreneurs in the district, Kumar said.

He went on to say that the vision of the club is to create a culture of entrepreneurship in the district and the idea of launching the club is to strengthen and grow the existing entrepreneurs so that others can also get inspiration from them.

On the role of the club, he said it would work as a platform to exchange ideas, share experiences and learnings, promote new entrepreneurs, and provide support. Further, he hoped that ‘Entrepreneur’s Club’ will create a roadmap for hundreds of youth.

The discussion started with each entrepreneur sharing their entrepreneurial journey and the challenges faced in the process of setting up their businesses. The officers present also highlighted the different services available under government flagship programmes to promote entrepreneurs. The members of club will include successful entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and officers of various departments.

EAC Hq. Peren, Kevethito Rose, chaired the launching programme.
