Kohima, Sep. 6 (EMN): Nagaland’s state capital Kohima is one among two cities from India selected to attend the coveted Urban95 Academy Residency programme at London School of Economics (LSE) (Cohort 2).
Kohima is recognised for its ‘Nurturing Neighbourhood’ challenge under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Govt. of India, for implementing a host of child-friendly programmes.
The Urban95 Academy, delivered by the LSE, is a six-week online programme designed to help leaders reevaluate how successful policy is measured on a city level. The curriculum provides tools to examine and generate data around what children and their caregivers need to thrive in cities, and to put that knowledge to use for improving access to public space and services.
“Kohima is the only two cities along with Rourkela from India to be selected worldwide for Residency week at Urban95 Academy, London,” Kohima Smart City informed through the micro blogging site Twitter.
This milestone has given another impetus to the only smart city in the state, besides the previous feathers on its cap as the Top 11 city winner for ‘India Cycle for Change’ challenge and other recognitions under Smart City missions.
It may be mentioned that 25 cities in India were selected in February, 2021; and in January this year, ten cities were selected for another round namely Bengaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad, Indore, Jabalpur, Kakinada, Kochi ,Kohima, Rourkela, Vadodara and Warangal.
According to reports, over 60 cities applied in February 2021, following which an independent jury of national experts selected an initial cohort of 25, which received support over the following year to implement activities such as reclaiming public spaces for play, refurbishing amenities that provide services to families, creating safer walking experiences for families with young children, and enhancing opportunities for young children to connect with nature.
