Kohima Science College gets new academic building

Kohima, Feb. 3 (EMN): A new academic building of Kohima Science College (Autonomous) in Jotsoma (KSCJ) known as ‘The Red Square’ consisting of 36 classrooms was inaugurated on Thursday.

Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Keneizhakho Nakhro, who graced the occasion as guest of honour, commended on the successful completion of the building and termed as ‘remarkable and notable achievement.’ He acknowledged the state government and other well-wishers who have contributed towards the construction.

He also hailed the relentless pursuit, collective efforts and pragmatic approach of the college’s principal, Dr. Lily Sema, and colleagues for the completion of the building saying, ‘Their integrity have withstand the test of time.’

Nakhro also exhorted the students and stated that they are fortunate to have better infrastructure facilities. In this regard, he told the students to be hard working and persistence to bring laurels and recognition to the college.

He, on behalf of the Jotsoma community, assured to be guardian of the college as well as safeguard and extend all cooperation towards the endeavour of the college.

Presenting the construction report, Dr. Lily Sema informed that the building construction started on February 15, 2018, and cost a total of INR 6.67 crore.

She apprised that the building is 240 feet long, 50 feet wide in three separate structures- East wing, West wing and the middle staircase (in three storey), which could still accommodate two more storey.

On the occasion, the principal acknowledged the state chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, and minister of Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along, and all other well-wishers who have contributed towards the construction of the building.

About ‘The Red Square’

The chairperson of the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Wenyitso Kapfo informed that the new academic building painted in red colour stands for revolutionary ideas and thoughts that also represented triumph in adversity as major part of the building was built during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He added that ‘The Red Square’ also represented crazy ideas, new ideas and simple minded dedication to a cause while it also represented protection and help from God almighty.

The building was inaugurated by the guest of honour, while the dedicatory prayer was said by Rev. Zakiebinyü Peseyie, pastor of Baptist Church, Jotsoma. The additional director of Higher Education and HoD, Dr. Katoni Jakhalu, and other officials from the department, advisor of TaFMA, members from Jotsoma village council and village functionaries and other well-wishers attended the inaugural programme.
