Administrator KMC, T Lanusenla Longkumer in an order stated that illegal and irresponsible littering and dumping of waste in drains are leading to clogging of drains and affecting footsteps as well as roads all over the municipality.

“Dumping of waste in drains, vacant plots, blocking of drain and littering during construction activities are all deemed as illegal,” the order stated.

The administrator asked all ward panchayats, councils and ward/colony/sector sanitation committees to check illegal dumping of garbage in drains, littering and blocking of drains during construction.

The administrator also notified that penalty may be realised from offenders: first offence (INR 500), second offence (INR 1000) and after second offence (INR 2000).

“Proper receipt is to be issued and record to be maintained for realising such penalties. Month-wise report to be intimated to KMC in December each year. The amount collected may be utilised for meeting sanitation related expenses within the ward/colony/sector,” the order stated.
