KMC conducts awareness-cum-training on waste segregation
KOHIMA — An awareness-cum-training on segregation of waste at source and composting was organised by Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) at Japfü Christian College (JCC) Kigwema, on Monday.
Speaking during the event T Lanusenla Longkumer, administrator of KMC, stressed the need for waste management and shared with the students on how to tackle the segregated wastes and the different types of wastes in and around the environment.
The administrator highlighted the different areas and localities with images of how humans are polluting the environment and the landfills.
Longkumer explained the need to civilise the citizens to be more cautious about how these wastes are harmful to the body besides polluting the surrounding areas.
She encouraged the students to be mindful and take this as an important step to make the environment free from pollution.
The official also demonstrated how to segregate wet waste into green bins and dry waste into blue bins.
The KMC, which started the awareness and training programme since last year, has been trying to impact citizens of different colonies, schools and colleges in Kohima by imparting the message of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR).
The municipal council has already imparted the training to educational institutes like KROS College, Kohima Science College, Mount Olive College, Don Bosco College and Model Christian College.
It was informed that the municipal council would reach out to more institutes in the days to come.
Comedian and influencer Aseno Ayemi conveyed a message on the importance of cleanliness, while urging the students to inculcate the habit of keeping their environment healthy for healthy living through actions and necessary initiatives.
To spread more awareness of KMC’s initiative towards their clean campaign, it was informed that KMC has pitched in another person Pelenuo Yhome, the founder of Züb Züb India.
Principal of JCC, Visakhonü Hibo, informed that their institute received a certificate from Nagaland Pollution Control Board after successfully undergoing a “Green Audit” during 2001 – 2002.
Resident officer, JCC, Vizapo Kikhi, acknowledged the KMC for reaching out to the college and assured them to put into action whatever they have learned during the day.
The KMC administrator was accompanied by Neilhouphrelie Paphino, assistant chief inspector, KMC.
