Khamo inaugurates mini handicrafts exhibition

KOHIMA — Advisor of Civil Administrative Works Department (CAWD) and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Wednesday inaugurated a week-long mini handicrafts exhibition-cum-sales at Vamuzo Memorial Hall in Chozuba town under Phek district.

Speaking on the occasion, Khamo called upon the artisans to stay committed to their gifted talents so as to prosper in the handicrafts sector, stated an update from the advisor’s office. He also encouraged the local artisans to stay connected with the financial institutions to succeed in business venture.

Acknowledging the Ministry of Textiles for organising mini exhibition in Chozuba, he called upon the artisans to make the best use of the platform and get maximum benefit. He informed that the government has framed different policies to strengthen the livelihood activities. In this regard, he called upon the people to come forward and avail the various schemes and facilities being extended by the central and state governments.

The programme was organised as part of the celebration of Khadi Mahotsav and Atmanirbhar Bharat, which was initiated by office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima, under the Ministry of Textile, Government of India.

Also speaking on the occasion, T Rollee Vareishim, senior assistant director  of HSC Kohima, stated that the objective of the exhibition was to connect market linkage to the artisans and also to help boost handicraft sector at the grassroots.

Pointing out that the Ministry of Textiles has many schemes for artisans, he called upon the community to get in touch with office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) for identity card.

The welcome address was delivered by Cholzo Sophie, general manager of District Industries Centre (DIC), Chozuba, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Rajib Chandra Roy, handicrafts promotion officer.

The mini exhibition is being held on the theme “Vocal for local,” which would continue till October 31.

A total of 25 stalls on tribal textiles, wood craft, cane and bamboo craft, jewellery, pottery, natural dye and handloom and khadi are put on display.
