DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles welcomed the 16-member National Integration Tour team upon their return to Nagaland from Delhi on Monday in Kohima.

Major General Vikas Lakhera, Sena Medal, and Inspector General Assam Rifles (North) received the team of the Mothers and Widows Association, Phek district, who had returned from the tour of Delhi and Agra, according to a press release.

The tour, which began on October 15 in Phek to commemorate the International Day of Rural Women, saw the women embark on a nine-day journey that included visits to India Gate and the National War Memorial, as well as historical tours of Rashtrapati Bhavan, Red Fort, Lotus Temple, Shastri Bhavan, and Taj Mahal, besides Sarojini Market and Delhi Haat.

The tour also gave the women the opportunity to meet with Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs Smriti Zubin Irani. The meeting served as a chance to discuss regional issues and grievances and raise awareness of the current and future schemes of the government. It served its purpose of integrating the women with other parts of the country, the statement said.

In his address to the gathering on Monday, Lakhera urged the members to work towards further cooperation and the upliftment of Naga society, as well as encouraged participation in future tours that could benefit the general public.

All the members of the association were presented with mementos and gifts. The members thanked the Assam Rifles for undertaking the initiative and assured their future cooperation in such confidence-building measures.
