Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü wins Angami Sports Association 50th meet senior wrestling

Kohima, Feb. 18 (EMN): Kezhaseluo-o Pienyü grappled down Kezhavizo Thevo twice to emerge champion in the final of Angami Sports Association (ASA) 50th meet senior category wrestling at the jam-packed Khuochiezie local ground in Kohima on Friday evening.

Pienyü from Northern Angami Sports Association (Nasa), who also lifted the championship title in 2018 edition, recieved a cash prize of INR 2,00,000, while opponent Thevo, also from the same group won INR 1,20,000.

Mhasilhusie Nagi of Western Angami Youth Organisation (Wayo) dropped Vizakietuo Suohu from Nasa to win the third position title.

Nagi and Suohu received INR 80,000 and INR 50,000 as the third and fourth position holders respectively. In addition, Nagi also received the ‘best tactic’ award of INR 10,000.

Quarter finalists Kevizhakho Suokhrie (Wayo), Keviser Dzüvichü (Nasa), Seyiesalie Nakhro of Chakhroma Youth Organisation (CYO) and Medosatuo Paünuo (Nasa) received INR 10,000 each.

Both Wayo and Nasa received INR 1,00,000 each for securing 76 points each during the competition.

SASA received INR 60,000, securing 71 points while CYO, which secured 23 and 1/2 (half) points received INR 40,000 respectively.

Altogether, 60 strong wrestlers from Nasa, Sasa, Wayo and CYO competed for top honours during the competition.

Earlier, ASA president Lhoubeizo Kesiyie informed that they had invited various sports associations from different tribes to be part of the event so as to promote wrestling throughout Nagaland, fostering more peaceful coexistence, brotherhood and understanding among them.

“Phouse Kene”, featuring two wrestlers, who are both below 10 years of age, as a prelude to the competition was held, invoking ‘God’s blessings’.

Surviving ASA meet wrestling champions were also introduced during the event.

Meanwhile, some had complained about tickets being sold at an exorbitant prices to the spectators during the senior wrestling competition this time. It was learnt that ticket was priced at INR 100 for a seat in the gallery, while chair ticket was priced at INR 500, donor ticket at INR 2,000 and ‘well-wisher’ ticket at INR 10,000.

The junior category wrestling meet will be held on Saturday starting from 9 am at Khuochiezie local ground.
