Kekheneito Kere wins KYO wrestling meet

KIGWEMA — Kekheneito Kere lifted the wrestling championship title at the 84th annual sports meet of Kigwema Youth Organisation held at Kholera, Kigwema ground, on Thursday.

Kere defeated defending champion Kekhrie Yhoshü in the final to emerge as the new champion, while Ketouvilie Kere secured the third position and Kheseto Zütso the fourth position.

The winning KYO wrestlers will now represent the village in the upcoming Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) sports meet, featuring wrestling, football and volleyball to be held at Kholera from February 8 to the 10th.

Earlier, Vilekho Bio, general secretary of the Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), attended the inaugural ceremony as guest of honour. In his speech, he highlighted the shift in the narrative of sports from “part-time” to professional career with rewarding perks.

He stressed the importance of taking sports seriously and urged the youngsters to pursue their sports discipline and give their best.

Further, he informed that the mega event Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA) championship is tentatively scheduled for April 4.

Zakievilie Yhoshü, president of Kigwema Youth Organisation (KYO), delivered the welcome address. The programme was led by Neisele Neihu, general secretary of KYO, and the oath was administered by Aneile Phira, games and sports secretary, KYO.
