DIMAPUR — Nagaland state unit of the Jansankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF) has completed the nationwide signature drive to garner support for the cause of formulating national population control policy with exemption for the northeast areas.

President of JSF Nagaland, Tsasepi Sangtam, and the general secretary, Jaangsillung Gonmei, informed that the forms would be collectively submitted to the Prime Minister on October 29, 2023.

It mentioned that in response to the rapid population growth of India since the last many decades which ultimately surpassed China in December 2022 with 1.4 billion people making India the most populous country in the world with a disproportionate landmass of just 2.4% of the world, JSF, a non-political and non-governmental organisation registered in 2013, has been working towards population control of the nation by demanding for a population control policy based on two-child norms.

It added that a JSF delegation accompanied by four members of parliament  met the President of India on August 9, 2018, and submitted a memorandum signed by 125 MP demanding the formulation of population control act based on two child norm with stringent penalties for the defaulters. JSF also demanded for exemption of the tribal societies of Northeast region by considering the fragility of the tribal population growth rate. 

JSF stated that it has been persistently striving towards this end by organising various seminars, meetings, rallies followed with a national signature drive to garner public support for the cause. It added that the Nagaland unit of JSF along with the other Northeastern states is diligently working towards the goal of exemption for all indigenous tribal population of Nagaland and the North eastern region.

Meanwhile, JSF Nagaland has thanked Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, for extending his advice and support for the cause. JSF also expressed gratitude to its chief patron, S Phangnon Konyak, MP and vice chairperson of Rajya Sabha and other patrons including Dr. Ahoto Andrew, national general secretary of NPP, and Kashiho Sangtam, former minister, for their continuous support for the cause of JSF.

JSF further welcomed the newly inducted JSF patrons namely minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along; advisor of DUDA, Geology and Mining, W Chingang Konyak; MLA Achumbemo; MLA Lima Onen Chang; president of BJP Nagaland and PDA co-chairman, Benjamin Yepthomi; and Dr. Roland Lotha as JSF advisor. 

JSF Nagaland further expressed gratitude to everyone who had been a part of the mega public signature drive supporting the cause of population control policy to prevent population explosion and its negative fallout in the nation.
