IOCL positions composite cylinder as upgrade from the existing steel
KOHIMA — As part of Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) promotional campaign, a gas delivery van was flagged off and a free composite LPG cylinder connection was handed over to singer and songwriter Temsu Clover on Saturday at Hotel Japfü in Kohima.
The composite gas cylinder is IOCL‘s latest offering, with a three-layer high-density polyethylene (HDPE) body that is said to have advantages over the existing steel 14.2 kg cylinder.
Clover, on the occasion, said that she did her research on composite gas cylinders and found them to be safe and convenient for women. She claimed that she had to rely on her father to lift the cylinders, but now that she could do it herself.
The cylinder was handed over to Clover by D P Vidyarthi, chief general manager (LPG), Indian Oil AOD state office, Noonmati, Guwahati.
Vidyarthi, during the event, highlighted the composite cylinder’s features, stating that it is lightweight and has safety measures. He also mentioned that users can check the gas level and plan when to refill.
Solei Kumrah, DLH Tinsukia Indane DO, mentioned that the composite gas cylinder was first introduced in Nagaland at the Dimapur bottling plant in January 2022 and then at Seyie Gas Service in Kohima. He added that the 10 kg cylinder has grown in popularity since then, and Kohima has emerged as the composite’s top selling district.
He mentioned that the latest cylinder is visually aesthetic, 50% lighter than the existing cylinder, which, with the addition of gas, weighs only 16 kg, is rust free, does not corrode or leave stain marks, and a user can check the contents of the gas and plan out when to refill.
Speaking about safety, the official noted that in case of a fire at home, the cylinder would not explode, and with such features, the cylinder comes at a price that is a little higher.
For interested customers, the nearest Indane LPG distributor will accept surrender of the existing 14.2 kg cylinder and replace it with a 10 kg composite cylinder. The 14.2 kg cylinder security deposit is INR 2,000, whereas the 10 kg composite cylinder security deposit is INR 3,500, and the customer must pay an additional (one-time) fee of INR 1,500 to surrender the cylinder.
Later, Vidyarthi flagged off the gas delivery van with Sanjeev Kapoor, a master chef and the ‘Xtra TeJ’ brand ambassador. Following that, a structured meeting with Kohima Indane gas distributors was held.
