Intense battles mark day 2 of KIUG wrestling event

KOHIMA — Day two of the Khelo India University Games (Ashtalakshmi) wrestling event, hosted by Nagaland and organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in collaboration with the Government of Nagaland and Nagaland University, saw intense battles at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima.

On Saturday, in the 62 kg Seniors Women’s Wrestling category, Pragati Vinod Gaikwad from Bharati Vidyapeeth University Maharashtra (BVUM) secured the gold medal, Nitika from Delhi University (DU) won the silver medal, and Vaishnavi Dilipppatil from the University of Mumbai claimed the bronze medal.

In the 72 kg Women’s Wrestling category, Manju from Chandigarh University won the gold medal, Varsha from Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, secured the silver, and Tanu Sharma from Panjab University bagged the bronze medal.

Manju from DU won gold in 59 kg senior women’s wrestling, Nitika from Chandigarh University won silver, and Deepti from Punjab University won bronze.

In the 53 kg Seniors Women’s Wrestling category, Nancy from CKU won the gold medal, Kirti from Lovely Professional University (LPU) secured the silver, and Sheetal from Chaudhary Bansi Lal University, Bhiwani, walked away with the bronze medal.

Sachin from Chandigarh University won gold in the Freestyle Seniors 92 kg event, while Himanshu Antil from Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology (DCRUST) won silver and Prateek Fougat from SGU won bronze.

Goverdhan Jat of DAV University won the Freestyle Seniors 74 KG event, with Vikash of Sun Rise University (SRU) taking silver and Ankit of GJU taking bronze.

In Freestyle Seniors 65 kg, Pardeep from Shri Kallaji Vedic Vishvavidhyalaya, Chittorgarh (SKVVC) won gold, Jasbir Khatkar from Punjabi University Patiala (PUP) won silver, and Atul from Guru Kashi University (GKU) won bronze.

In Greco-Roman Senior 97 KG, Yashveer from Guru Jambheswar University of Science and Technology Hisar won gold, Ganesh Bramhadev Chavan from Pacific Academy of Higher Education and Research University (PAHSU) won silver, and Sonu from Chandigarh University won bronze.

In Greco-Roman Seniors 72 kg, Naveen from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University won the gold medal, Anil from Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) secured the silver, and Sachin from Chandigarh University claimed the bronze medal.

Pawan from Chaudhary Bansi Lal University Bhiwani won gold in Greco Roman Seniors 63 kg, Hariom Puri from Rabindranath Tagore University MP won silver, and Ankit from Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar took bronze.

The Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan, is scheduled to attend the closing ceremony of the event. Also, there will be an exhibition of Naga Style Wrestling, allowing athletes from other states to experience two bouts of the indigenous games.
