Half marathon held in Kohima to herald Khelo India University Games

DIMAPUR — As a prelude to the upcoming Khelo India University Games 2023 (Wrestling) set to take place at Kohima’s Indira Gandhi (IG) Stadium from February 22 to the 26th, a half marathon was held in the capital city, on Saturday.

The marathon, stretching from Phoolbari to High School Junction, was kicked off by T Lanusenla Longkumer, administrator of Kohima Municipal Council, a DIPR report stated.

Highlighting Nagaland’s role as the host state for wrestling events, Longkumer extended invitation to the citizens to witness the exhilarating bouts at IG Stadium, where universities from across the nation are expected to converge.

In the female category, Zerovi Resuh emerged champion followed by Z Livani Ezung and Pheangyu L Konyak in the second and third positions, respectively.

In the male category, Vihuka Assumi claimed first place, while Peuhaulungsing and Sorito Yimchunger were placed second and third, respectively.

Acknowledging the athletes’ achievements, the KMC administrator gave away certificates and cash prizes to the winners. The first-place winners in both male and female categories received INR 5000 each, while the second and third position holders received INR 3000 and INR 2000 each, respectively.

The participants included students from Don Bosco College, Mt. Olive College and Kohima College, the Youth Resource and Sports department and KMC.

A total of 31 runners took part in the marathon.
