Kohima: Zhaleo Rio, Advisor of Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, on Tuesday, said the state government will not deviate from its stand and will go ahead with the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election, as notified.

He stated this while speaking to journalists after a meeting with the 60 legislators at the Conference Hall of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) on the second day of the first session of the 14th NLA.

The advisor informed that the stand of the government was briefed to the elected legislators during the meeting, adding that the government will not deviate from its stand and is prepared to conduct the election for which notification was issued.

When asked if the NLA will have a discussion regarding the issue, he informed that the chief minister will make a statement during the session.

Amid opposition by the tribal hohos and associations including Association of Kohima Municipal Ward Panchayat (AKMWP), Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF) and the All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUNT) to amend the Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 before election, the advisor informed that the department has issued clarification relating to tax on land and buildings, and others, and will stand by the statement.
