Get rid of selfishness and uphold unity, says Nagaland legislator Khamo

KIKRUMA — Stressing the need for peace, progress and development, Advisor for Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Saturday called upon the Nagas to get rid of selfishness and forgive one another.

Addressing the 28th General Session of Chokri Area Public Organisation (CAPO) at Multi Purpose Hall in Kikruma under Phek district, the advisor urged the gathering to uphold unity and the legacy as a truthful and honest community.

He also emphasised the need to revive and restore the good tradition and culture of the ancestors; to maintain identity and unity.

An advocate for entrepreneurship, Khamo urged the younger generation to venture into business and not rely on government jobs alone, saying that ‘thinking is capital and enterprise is the way’ (quote by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam).

Highlighting the roles and responsibilities of village councils, he implored them to be honest, deliver justice and strategise the progress of the village. He also reiterated his commitment towards equitable development of all villages and he sought the co-operation of the public.

The advisor went on to stress the importance of upholding the resolutions of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), including ban on import of pigs, restriction on burning of jungle, and conservation of flora and fauna.

He also urged the community to take up mass afforestation through tree plantation, starting at family level, in order to maintain ecological balance.

Former NLA Speaker, Thenucho Tunyi also spoke at the event, while CAPO president Vezohu Tunyi gave the presidential address and welcome address delivered by VCC Kikruma Thipuzhoyo Thira.

The Convenor of Nomination Committee, by Satahi Shijo, also announced new CAPO executives for the tenure 2024-27 at the event. The new CAPO team will be led by Vepozoyi Theyo from Thenyizu village; Dzuthokhoto Tetseo from Thipuzu is vice president; and Vekusu Chuzho from Phusachodu is general secretary.
