First Rapid Nagaland State Open Chess Championship underway

Kohima, Oct 21 (EMN): The first Rapid Nagaland State open Chess Championship 2021 organised by Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) is underway at its office below Government Press Office, Lower Chandmari in Kohima.

During the inaugural programme, the secretary of NCA, Mughaho Awomi said that the tournament is based on the theme, ‘Drive safe’ ‘Do not checkmate your life’ stating that the department of Transport, government of Nagaland has collaborated with NCA in assisting as well as being a part of the sponsorship in organising the tournament.

The secretary hope to further collaborate with the department in any of its future tournaments while stating that during the two-day tournament, the association is simultaneously spreading awareness.

He also urged the members and participants to follow traffic safety rules and avoid using mobile phones while driving, to not drink and drive, always respect speed limit and take a break etc.

“Chess is life miniature, chess is struggle, chess is battle”, he added.

The tournament was kicked off by the DIGP of Nagaland Police, Rajashekara N, wherein 42 participants from across the state are taking part in under-14 (open) and under-18 (open) categories.
