Fire guts restaurant, kitchenware shop in Kohima

A fire that broke out at N Kire Market, near Razhü Point in D Block area, Kohima on Tuesday, August 1 afternoon gutted two commercial establishments

KOHIMA — Two commercial establishments including a restaurant and a kitchenware shop were gutted in a fire that broke out at N Kire Market, near Razhü Point in D Block area, Kohima, on Tuesday.

However, there was no report of any casualties or injuries.

Officer in-charge of South Fire Station, Sedevizo Hibo, told Eastern Mirror that they received a call at around 12:30 pm about the fire, which reportedly broke out in the restaurant due to a short circuit, after which four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire.

Property worth approximately INR 15 lakh of the restaurant and INR 40 lakh worth of property along with a large amount of cash from the kitchenware store were reportedly destroyed by the inferno. It was informed that the restaurant was renovated only a week ago.

Meanwhile, Theja Kire, the proprietor of N Kire Market, appreciated the efforts of fire personnel whose timely action prevented the fire from spreading further to adjoining buildings, which house various businesses.
