Fire breaks out at Jail colony in Kohima, destroys four shops

A major fire broke out at Jail colony in Kohima, near BSNL office, around 6.40 pm on Friday, destroying four shops and a Maruti Suzuki Alto car that was parked in the vicinity.

Officials from South Fire Station told Eastern Mirror that four fire tenders, three from South Fire Station and one from North Fire Station were pressed into action to douse the inferno and stopped it from spreading to the adjoining buildings.

No casualties were reported as the shops were shut when the fire broke and the property damaged in the incident could not be ascertained till the time of filing this report.

On the cause of the fire, the police said it suspect electrical short circuit.
