JOTSOMA— Addressing the 19th parting social of Nagaland University Students’ Union (NUSU), Kohima Campus, held at RCEMPA Jotsoma on Friday, the Pro VC urged the students to fight corruption.

“Numerous government schemes exist to help you start your own business, but the corrupt have pocketed everything for their kith and kin. You should, therefore, fight for what is yours. Some of you will have to fight the corrupt system to safeguard your future, by getting rid of nepotism and manipulation,” Thong said.

For the fight to be effective and to secure their future, he said the students have to work together with other like-minded people and organisations.

Pointing out that the manipulative system does not recognise merit, as nepotism and sale of jobs are the order of the day, he asked the gathering to stop dreaming and start acting.

“Success in life” will always remain one of humankind’s most important goals, he said, adding that one has to work hard unceasingly and persistently to succeed.

“You will often find obstacles blocking your path, but if you can come out of your comfort zone, these obstacles will only make you stronger. Sweetest success comes after great challenges. As life becomes more challenging, some people thrive. Going through tough times is not easy, but through the blood, sweat, and tears, you will surely rise higher than where you started,” said the academician.

“If you can bear the pain, rest assured of a good life ahead,” he added.

He also advised the students to pick up other skills besides their academic degrees to successfully negotiate through life.

The professor also encouraged the gathering to look for other options including the private sector and entrepreneurship as jobs in the government sector are almost saturated. Meanwhile, he said jobs exist everywhere but opportunities come only to the challenge-takers.

Students may come from different economic and social backgrounds, but he said nothing should deter anyone from climbing to the top.

Earlier in the programme, president of NUSU-KC, Chingshau, delivered the presidential address while Shahchoi B Buchem delivered speech on behalf of the outgoing students.
