Former Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mmhonlumo Kikon has been appointed General Secretary (Political) of the National People’s Party with immediate effect.

KOHIMA — Former BJP legislator and national spokesperson Mmhonlumo Kikon has been appointed General Secretary (Political) of the National People’s Party (NPP) with immediate effect.
According to party sources, the appointment was made by the National President of NPP, Conrad K Sangma, who is also the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
In his new role, Kikon has been entrusted with structured coordination and dialogue with various political parties and stakeholders across the north-eastern states to ensure strategic alignment and consultations towards the realisation of the vision of ‘One Northeast.’

He will also coordinate with state presidents and office bearers across states to review political developments, electoral preparedness, and inter-state organisational matters.
Additionally, he has been tasked with holding regular consultations with elected Members of Parliament, Members of Legislative Assemblies, and other elected representatives of the party to ensure policy coherence and political coordination.
The notification further stated that Kikon will design and supervise dedicated political programmes, consultations, conventions, and outreach initiatives aimed at enhancing the party’s presence and reach.
All state units and party functionaries have been directed to extend full cooperation in carrying out these responsibilities.
Kikon, a former member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly from the Bhandari constituency, was previously associated with the BJP, where he served as a national spokesperson and also as BJP Prabhari (in-charge) for Mizoram before resigning from the party.
