DIMAPUR — The Dimapur Sakshi Union (DSU) organised the first Phom Monyiu amateur badminton tournament on April 4 and the 5th at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex, DC Court Junction, Dimapur on the theme ‘Let’s celebrate Phom Monyiu with a smash.’
“This year The Dimapur Sakshi Union decided to celebrate Phom Monyiu with a purpose to promote badminton among the Phom community in particular and the Naga brethren in general and also to promote our ethnic cuisines, culture and traditions,” the DSU stated in an update.
The tournament included the following categories: Amateur, Masters 75+ men’s doubles, Masters 85+ men’s doubles and Masters 95+ men’s doubles.
A total of 56 teams including a team from Arunachal Pradesh and another from Bokajan, Assam, took part in the tournament.
In the inaugural programme, vice president of Dimapur Phom Union, the special guest, in his address, encouraged the young players to show more dedication and enthusiasm in the field of sports.
